Today we started. our day with a chartered bus ride to the demilitarized zone, DMZ. This is the border between North and South Korea, that has parts open to tourism. It serves as a buffer zone between the two countries and was originally established in 1953, ending the Korean War. W got a chance to tour one of the four discovered tunnels that were dug by North Korea in an attempt to attack South Korea sometime after the end of the Korean War. The tunnel is deep underground with a total of 1.7 km long, with only 265 m open to tourists. It is expected that there are more North Korean tunnels into South Korea that have yet to be discovered. Wee then proceeded to the observation building where you aer supposed to be able to peer into North Korea and see some buildings. Sadly, it was raining and foggy so we had no view of North Korea. Still, the trip to the DMZ was very interesting and informative about the conflict between the two Koreas.
Next, we headed to a Korean baseball game between the Lions and the Heroes. Baseball is a huge part of Korean culture and the games have a lot more interactivity than baseball in America. There are cheerleaders that lead chants and dances for every player and throughout the whole game. The team we were cheering for, the Heroes, ended up losing but it was still a really fun and a cool experience. All in all, it was a great day with so much to see and do!
