Today was an interesting and fun day. One of the visits I had been looking forward to most was the DMZ visit. I have always been fascinated by what it looks like and how they have turned it into a tourist attraction. After leaving the hotel, we took the long, hour-and-a-half bus ride north. In the area of the DMZ, we went to get lunch at an alright place, it wasn’t one of the best places we have been to so far on this trip.

After lunch, we left to go to the DMZ. Before entering the DMZ, there is a visitor center that everyone has to go to. We had to get off our bus and enter another bus that was allowed to go to the DMZ. Before crossing the bridge into the DMZ, we had to get our passports checked by the South Korean officers at the gate. The tour is very structured, so after crossing through the gate, we then went to an area with a tunnel that was built by the North Koreans. We could go into the tunnel until a certain point, and then we had to turn back. After that, we went to an observatory deck, which allowed us to see into North Korea. Today, it wasn’t perfect because it was foggy, so you couldn’t see anything other than the trees in front of you.

This picture on the left shows how close we were to the North Korean Border. I found it very interesting that not all roads on the South Korean side of the map are showing.

After we went to the observatory deck, we returned to the bus and left the DMZ. Then they had to recheck our passports on the way out. Then we were returned to the visitor area outside, where our original bus was. We then got some free time and food before returning to the bus and heading to the baseball game.

The baseball game was another visit that I was really looking forward to. I love watching MLB and I have known about the KBO and have watched some of it but not seriously. It was good to be out here and see a game in person because the experience is actually very different than what the average MLB game is like. I would compare the regular season game atmosphere more akin to a MLB playoff game atmosphere.

So we went to the game and got a great game that went into extra innings before the home team, Kiwoom Heroes, lost. After the game, we all went back to the hotel.
