Day 9: A Change of Scenery

Today was early day because we had to be out of our hotel in Bilbao by 8 am. That meant having eaten breakfast, packed my bags, and be in the lobby by 7:45 am. We then got on a bus toward Guernica but stoping at Tikniker. They work with many companies and hospitals to make different inventions or adaptions to currently existing produces. We got to tour some of their labs and see the different workspaces that they have. Tikniker is also a non-profit organization that gives internships out to many engineering students. After finishing up at Tikniker, we got back on the bus and took a 30 minute ride to Gernika.

We got to the hotel in Gernika and we able to find our rooms to get settled. Then, we visited Casa Juntas of Gernika. It includes the Tree of Gernika and the Assembly House. The architecture was beautiful and it is very impressive to know it was all carved by hand. This has been a meeting place for the Basque people for centuries. The current tree was planted in 2015 but they have the stump of the last tree on the property. Gernika is a very small and cute town that has so much history to explore. We also saw the Pablo Picasso mural that was painted in 1937 after the German bombing of Gernika.
