To start our day, we went on a company tour to Hoerbiger. This is a family-owned company that began making parts for ICE engines, and still continues to operate in this capacity to this day. It now needs to pivot into the EV industry in order to survive in the automotive sector. Our tour consisted of their compression division, which is a significant contributor to a variety of industries, specifically the medicinal industry, and their automotive division, which is under threat from the upcoming regulations in the EU. We spent a significant portion of our day at the Hoerbiger facilities, first in Altenstadt and then in Schongau, and we learned a great deal from the executives at both locations.
After our company visit, we took something resembling a ski lift into the Alps. The view on the way up was amazing, even though all of us panicked slightly when the lift stopped halfway through the ride. We were somewhat nervous until we saw the sign letting us know this was a normal part of operation. Once we reached the top of the mountain, our view improved and everyone was in awe. None of us could believe our eyes, and we spent a great deal of time just looking around. Of course, we then had to take pictures to document the trip, which may have taken even longer. Eventually, however, we were forced to go back down.
After our trip up the mountain, we went back down to the town of Oberammergau, where we had time to wander the streets and shop before we took the bus back to Augsburg. Many of us took that opportunity to get ice cream, as the view made us want something sweet. Our ice cream was delicious, likely thanks to the multitude of Alpine cows we had seen from the ski lift. Some people were more successful with their shopping trip than others, but everyone had a great day.
