Behind the Tap: A Visit to Ttukdo

Today we had another company visit to a water purification center, known as Ttukdo Arisu. Here, we got to see the process it takes to purify water for the city of Seoul. Ttukdo is one of 6 water purification facilities which, all together, provides clean and safe tap water to the citizens of Seoul. The center has a daily water production capacity of 400,000 tons of purified water which ultimately is provided to over 1 million Korean citizens. During the visit, we got to walk through various parts of the purification plant with one of their chemical engineers and observe the high-tech systems they use for monitoring and testing the water. We got to see the detection systems they have set up for their water treatment process in order to make sure their water is safe for all the consumers. We also learned that they, surprisingly, only have about 100 workers in the facility as many things rely on automated systems.

After a tour of the water treatment facility, we then went to the water museum which, conveniently, was right next door. We learned about the history of water purification in Seoul before having free time for the rest of the day. This free time gave us a chance to just explore the area around the purification center, eat some yummy food, get some boba, and shop before heading back to the hotel for the night.
