Today I got to visit two sites, Bernhardt Shulte and the Columbia Group. I got to learn a lot about how BSM is a certificate program to train seafarer workers. There are many jobs that at all levels that are required for managing ships for both companies such as mechanical and electrical engineers as well as finance and accounting people. BSM handles the training of the people who are going to work in the boat and shipping industry. They have really cool simulators that prepare their workers for anything that may come their way on the journey. The Columbia Group fascinated me because not only are they involved in ship management but they have an entire sector of their company dedicated to entertainment such as cruise ships and private jets. They have the general sector that’s priority is about taking care of vessels. They also employ those who are going in the vessels. Both companies taught me a lot about the actual process of being a seafarer and the management of ships.
