Today was a full dose of adventure and natural beauty. We kicked things off with a hike to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, an island chapel connected to the mainland by a narrow path and a steep staircase. The climb up the winding stone steps was definitely a workout, but once we reached to the top the views made it all worth it. There was an endless ocean on one side and rocky cliffs on the other. The uphill return hike was also a workout as the day warmed up, and when we made it back we rewarded ourselves with some much needed water and coffee.
Our next stop was a nearby village where we got pintxos and gelato. In the afternoon, we made another trek through the Oma Painted Forest. The painted trees formed larger images when viewed from specific marked spots on the trail. Seeing both the natural and artistic sides of the Basque countryside in one day was unforgettable.
