New Hotel

Last day in Bilbao. We started with a bus ride to Tekniker, a nonprofit that helps develop products with other companies and organizations. We got to see their different development labs and some current secret projects. They have 50-60 students working for them at a time and complete almost 300 projects a year. Each person works on 10-15 projects a year as well, depending on their size and how big the teams are. They also had two students working through the university with them who created projects to help one of the hospitals we visited. After our visit, we headed off to our new hotel in Gernika. We had some time to relax after an early day out before we headed to explore the town and learn about its history. We saw a recreation of Picasso’s painting before learning how it represented the bombing that happened during WWII. It was one of the first civilian bombings. We then visited the Casa de Junta de Gernika, an important historical landmark in Gernika. The tree that is there has been replanted over and over from the seed of the previous one. It holds a significant meaning; it was involved in the swearing in of Spain’s leaders.
