Monday morning started a little earlier than the past few days, but it wasn’t too bad. We were still able to get breakfast before getting on our private bus. The bus took us to Camp Casey, where Grace and Will showed us around the base. We went to the motor pool where they keep some of their vehicles. The one they showed us was a strike tank that they use for missions. It was really cool to see, and we were able to ask questions about it, but we couldn’t go inside because it was being transported. They are able to put weapons on the tank and a total of 4 people can fit. Their missions mainly are for chemical investigations. They are able to travel faster than the ground unit, so they test for whatever issue they are dealing with and are able to move on quickly. After that, we learned about the ground unit and their training. They seem to do a lot harder work than the people in the strike tank. Eventually we had some lunch, and I got a calzone, which was huge. It was pretty good, and it was a taste of home. That concluded the tour of the camp, but Grace took us to a small mountain to go on another hike. I was a little worried about how that would go because of the brutal hike the other day, but it was very relaxing compared to the other one. We got to the turnaround point and there was a pretty waterfall and a small temple. It was very nice weather, so we weren’t too hot, but it was beautifully sunny. After the hike, we went back to the hotel to have free time.
In our free time, we took multiple subways to go to Texas Roadhouse. The website said they closed at nine and we got there a little after eight, but they said they weren’t sitting anyone anymore. We were very upset because of the long journey we took, and we were all starving. Eventually we walked in the rain to a small place nearby. It was a burger place called Bears Burger and Pasta. It was very cute and the man who took our order was very accommodating and helped us move tables so our group had enough room. I got their signature Bear burger, and let me tell you, it was the best burger I’ve ever had. Maybe I was just starving, but it was so much better than whatever I would have gotten at Texas Roadhouse. Everyone else agreed too, and we wrote good reviews because the guy was super nice, and the burgers were spectacular. Eventually, we took another hour’s transport back to the hotel and got ready for the DMZ tomorrow.
