Day 11: Cyprus I’ll Miss You!

Even though I was sad about today being my last full day, I was very excited to visit St. Mina’s Monastery and Lefkara Village. I could feel a peaceful atmosphere when stepping into the Monastery. There were unique arches that were mostly white, with beautiful greenery and flowers surrounding the area, which created a very calm environment. I also noticed the nuns who maintained the grounds were very quiet and reserved. After St. Mina’s Monastery, we took the bus to Lefkara Village to walk around and get lunch. This village is known for its handmade lace, called Lefkaritika, as well as its silver craftsmanship. We made our first stop at one of the local artisan shops and had the opportunity to see the way Lefkaritika was woven. The village had buildings with various bright colors and a rocky road. I loved interacting with the locals, mainly because I could sense their love for their heritage. I noticed that there was a blend of the local culture as well as modern tourism. Today was another great day of exploring Cyprus’s rich cultural heritage and traditions, and I look forward to cherishing these memories as I say goodbye to this beautiful island.
