Sadly, today was our last day on the beautiful island of Cyprus. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and would recommend that other people come to visit if they ever get the chance! Our final visits were to the Saint Minas Monastery and the hillside village of Lefkara. The monastery was a peaceful place with a beautiful church and lovely architecture. Lefkara, which was similar to Kakopetria, was one of the most picturesque towns I have seen in Europe. It was really interesting seeing all the buildings and small streets built in tradition architecture, and I think it is neat that the government is trying to preserve history here. Another historic tradition of Lefkara is the lace which I bought one of. The unique patterns are said to have been in inspiration to the famous Leonardo DaVinci, who visited the island of Cyprus hundreds of years ago. In his famous last supper painting, the tablecloth is patterned in the same way of a traditional Lefkara lace. The lace was beautiful and the patterns were unique, with their zigzags and local inspirations from things like palm trees. While I am sad to leave this beautiful country, I am thankful for this experience and will never forget my 2 week Pitt Study Abroad trip to Κύπρος.
