Predeparture Plus3 Vietnam

Hello, I am Olivia Schaub, and I am from Baltimore, Maryland. I am a first-year student at Pitt Business and the Fredrick Honors College and am currently undeclared in my major and pursuing a Leadership and Ethics Certificate. Outside of class, I enjoy swimming, reading, and going to K-pop concerts with my sister. Over the summers, I lifeguard at my local swim club and this year I am excited to take on an assistant manager position. I love to learn about the customs and cultures of new places in order to appreciate our differences and broaden my worldview.
My goal as a student is to learn as much as I can about as many majors and career opportunities within Pitt Business. In my search for opportunities and connections, I have joined Behavioral Economics Club and become a Discussion Board Member as well as the Vice President of Community Service for Women in Business for the 2026 calendar year. I love the collaborative aspect of being on the BEC Discussion Board and have learned both new economic concepts as well as how to properly work as a team to present new material. As Vice President, I communicate with local service organizations to plan events for the members of Women in Business for the spring and fall 2026 semesters. Some of my most recent events collaborated with the Pittsburgh Humane Society, Women’s Center Shelter, and Family House. At this point, I am not sure what I want to pursue professionally, but I love to talk to others about their careers to better understand the world of business. If I had to choose, I would say that analytical marketing is most interesting, but there are so many professions that I am still unaware exist.
This summer, I will be participating in Plus3 Vietnam. I chose Plus3 in order to strengthen my professional skills and understanding of business topics. Personally, I wanted to take a step outside my comfort zone and visit a new continent. In the last few years, I have been outside the United States, but never to Asia. I cannot wait to interact with the students of the University of Economics and Finance and learn about life and education abroad. Academically and professionally, I hope that through Plus3 I can learn more about the implications and careers of the majors within Pitt Business. In my search for my passion within the business field, I hope that learning about the technological innovations of Vietnam will help me narrow my focus. As well as speaking with my peers both at Pitt and the University of Economics and Finance, to learn about their professional goals. Plus3 Vietnam is an amazing opportunity to see business outside the classroom at such an early stage in my time here at Pitt, and I hope to take advantage of everything it has to offer.
