From Pittsburgh to Greece

on

Hi! My name is Kyle Schaller, and I’m from Upper Dublin, Pennsylvania. I am a first year engineering student at the University of Pittsburgh and will be entering the Electrical and Computer Engineering department this coming Fall. I love problem-solving, and I’m excited to gain a better understanding of how engineering becomes a part of working out logistical operations in a global environment by studying in Greece. Outside of academics, some of my hobbies include music production, audio-visual art, and photography.

Plus3 Greece has a major focus on shipping, logistics, and connecting these ideas to engineering work in a global market. I chose this program as I am very interested in how the engineering process looks in different places around the world, how it is impacted by location, culture, etc., and how a major international intersection like Greece manages to keep our world running smoothly. By the end of the trip, I hope to have a deep understanding of maritime infrastructure and how Greece uses engineering to manage shipping.

In my one prior study abroad experience, a trip to Québec City with my high school French class, my perspective on what I was learning was completely changed. I used and developed skills not only related to the language but also in problem solving and general communication. From then on, I had decided that studying abroad was something that I had to pursue further. As a result, my main goal is to walk away from Plus3 Greece with a perspective that few other Electrical Engineering students have. This means being able to incorporate Industrial Engineering, international business, and supply chain knowledge into my professional work, class work, as well as personal life/hobbies wherever applicable. I can’t wait to see how much I learn by the end of our time in Greece.
