Hello, I am Opal Miller and I am a first year engineering student from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I’m planning on majoring in chemical engineering, while also pursuing minors in economics and chemistry. When I’m not studying, I love to workout and go hiking, but I also love reading! Some of my favorite books currently include The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, Babel by R.F. Kuang, and I will always go for a good murder mystery, especially if it’s Agatha Christie. I’m also an active member in Pitt’s Society of Women Engineers, and I am looking forward to serving as their fundraising chair for next year! In the more long term, I am fascinated by business and law, so eventually I think it would be really cool to go to law school and become a patent lawyer or get involved in logistics, which fits well with program’s goals for experiencing supply chains.
Professionally speaking, I think I really want to gain exposure into what working in supply chains or the more “business-y” side of engineering is like, as there are a lot of different paths that currently interest me and I want to know more about them to make an informed decision when the time comes. This also fits into my academic goals, as it will help me narrow down what exactly I want to focus on for my remaining 3 years in college.
Along with those interests, I also have a love of history, especially when it comes to ancient architecture and politics. While I had originally chosen Cyprus for my Plus3 Trip, I think it is really cool that I get the opportunity to visit Athens and other places around Greece. I am really excited to be able to experience the culture and get to see all the different historical sights and live out my greek mythology loving middle school self’s dreams.
Overall, I am really excited to travel to Greece, and I am looking forward to all the new experiences I’ll get to live through while there!
