I Hope this Trip Nether-Ends!

Hello, my name is Colby Kostelac. I am from Mechanicsburg, PA and I’m majoring in Mechanical Engineering and also looking to earn the Sustainability Certificate. I was drawn to Mechanical Engineering because of its broad reach into other disciplines allowing me flexibility in my future career path. After my time at Pitt, I hope to work to help improve sustainable technology and green transportation infrastructure worldwide.

In my free time I like to stay active by running, working out, and getting outside as much as possible. I grew up camping and backpacking a lot, so I take advantage of any opportunity to get outdoors in college. I also enjoy playing soccer and really any other sport. I love to travel as well and am super excited to explore The Netherlands this summer. On campus I am involved in Engineers without Borders and Triangle Fraternity.

I chose Plus 3 Netherlands because of its focus in sustainability and renewable energy. The Netherlands is a world leader in innovative solutions to climate change and the demand for greener cities and I am excited to see some of these in action. As someone who values the natural world and enjoys spending time outside, sustainability is an issue that directly impacts me. I hope from this program I can gain a better understanding of sustainability and how I can contribute to solutions in the future. I also hope to get a more global perspective on engineering by observing how the work in The Netherlands is similar and different to what we do in the United States. I also want to grow as a person by trying new things and overcoming new challenges. I am excited to learn more about The Netherlands and experience alongside my classmates.
