Roots Without Routes

Hi, my name is Niko, and I am a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh in the business school. I’m undeclared right now, but I plan to double-major eventually. Out of class, I’m an active member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, where I’ve already grown a lot in a short period of time. Also, I have leadership experience from four years of employment at a summer camp, which has influenced my approach to teamwork and responsibility.

I am a freshman and look forward to beginning my career with a global focus in business. I am still figuring out exactly where I want to land, but I am interested in roles that involve people, strategy, and cross-cultural communication, and I am excited to begin gaining real experience that leads me in the right direction.

The Morocco Plus 3 program appealed to me for a very personal reason. My family is from Morocco, and I have never been able to visit. My grandfather has told me stories about what life was like growing up there, and I’ve always been curious to see it for myself. It seemed like the perfect program to bridge the gap between the country that I have heard about my whole life and the one I will get to experience firsthand.

Beyond the personal tie, I am excited to get a hands-on sense of how the business ecosystem is shaping up in Morocco and how international companies are doing business in emerging economies. I hope to return with a broader worldview, a greater cross-cultural awareness, and a deeper appreciation of my family roots that no classroom could ever fully teach me.
