Today was my first full day in Bilbao! In the morning we had multiple different lectures. Our first lecture was about the history of Bilbao and general demographics. We also played a Kahoot to learn some more fun facts about Bilbao. We got to ask many different questions to one of the professors at the School of Engineering Saioa. This was very cool because it gave me more of an understanding of daily life in Bilbao from a true native perspective. The next presentation we had was about a medical device that the School of Engineering built with the Hospital Gorliz. This device is called Oreka-Balance. This device helps either diagnose or can help stroke patients in their rehabilitation. It was very clear that the engineers wanted to design something that was practical and actually useful in the hospital. After this engaging presentation we had a 3 course lunch at the University. I had pasta, pork chop and then a chocolate pudding for dessert.
After lunch we met our tour guide Manguel. She gave us a long and detailed tour of the city Bilbao. Some of my favorite things that I saw was Puppy, a beautifully flower decorated puppy in front of the Guggenheim Museum, the many different boats, and we got to try pintxos. I tried the traditional pintxos which are green olives, peppers, and anchovies with olive oil on top. I enjoyed it a lot. I really liked being able to try the traditional and most common pintxos. After this we decided the venture back to the Guggenheim to walk around and take pictures. We soon after decided to go to dinner where we had many different types of pintxos. We relaxed and talked for a couple hours and then headed back home. A very successful first day.
