Day 3: Hospital Gorliz

Another fantastic day in Spain! This morning, we took a bus to Gorliz, a smaller town about 40 minutes from the hotel. On the bus ride to the hospital, I was lucky enough to sit next to Leiree, a local Biomedical Engineering student who will be completing a semester in Pittsburgh next year. She was smart and kind, and it was a pleasure to get to know her. I hope to see her more on the trip going forward.

We got to the hospital and were greeted by the director, and after a short speech from him, were given a presentation from the lead nurse at the hospital. It was very informative about the mission and history of the hospital and allowed me to compare the knowledge I have of the American healthcare system with the one here.

After that, we were split into groups, and I was lucky enough to have my tour guide be Jode, who was a smart and charismatic nurse who taught me a lot about the hospital. We were also shown the Oreka machine we learned about yesterday, which was developed by Saioa and the rest of her research team, and I was even allowed to try it out. Then, we had a delicious lunch and headed back to the hotel on the metro.

In the evening, Saioa brought us to dinner, where I tried veal and had a good conversation with friends all around.
