Our day started bright and early with breakfast before getting on the bus to visit Gogoa Mobility Robots, a private hospital and research center focused on rehabilitation technology. We learned a brief history of the facility and how it has developed into a leader in mobility support. One of the most interesting parts of the visit was seeing robotic exoskeleton legs designed to help patients walk again. It was really cool to see how technology can support recovery and improve quality of life for people with mobility challenges. We also had the opportunity to try some reaction time tests, which showed how these systems can track and measure patient progress.
After that, we returned to the main university campus, where we toured several physical therapy labs. It was interesting to see the equipment and spaces used for rehabilitation and training, and how they support both students and patients. We then listened to our professor give a presentation on pelvic floor disorders and his ongoing research. He discussed how he collaborates with other professionals and continues to study ways to improve patient outcomes. I also learned that the United States is the most expensive country for childbirth, which I found very interesting considering how much we invest in healthcare. I never realized how common pelvic floor disorders are among women.
After lunch, we headed out to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. It was a beautiful hike by the ocean, known for its long stone bridge and steep steps. The weather was perfect, and we had a great time being outside and taking in the views. Once we reached the top, the coastal scenery was unreal. It was such a unique place, and the church was beautiful. After hiking back up to the bus, we stopped at the beach for some ice cream. Today was filled with so many great experiences, and I’m excited to keep learning and making the most of this trip.
