Today began with us packing up to leave our hotel room. After gathering all our belongings, we boarded a bus headed for Twente University in the Netherlands. After we got off the bus, we dropped off our stuff and began a campus tour given by a few students. On the tour, they discussed topics relating to Twente University, including some interesting facts. For example, I learned that Twente is the only university in the Netherlands where the campus is its own private area, as most are integrated within a city or town, like Pitt, which is an aspect of Dutch culture I never knew before.

After the tour, we were taken into a classroom for lunch and given a presentation. The presenter discussed Kristalbad, a natural water purification system. After finishing our lunch and the presentation, we left the university to tour the location. While processing the information from the presentation and visiting Kristalbad, I thought back to the United Nations sustainability goal relating to marine/water-based life. Kristalbad, an area of water basins and plant life that helps purify water, promotes sustainability due to offering a home for animals instead of incorporating habitat-running machinery to achieve the same result.

Once those activities were concluded, we returned to the hotel for a quick break. We then met in the lobby later, as we had planned to meet some local Twente University students. Meeting in the engineering building, we got to interact with and see what it was like to be an engineering student in the Netherlands. The day concluded with pizza before we were given free time for the rest of the night. Overall, today enabled me to explore student life in the Netherlands and sustainability in the surrounding area.
