Today was day 5 in Bilao, and it did not disappoint! After our usual early morning breakfast, we boarded the bus to visit Gogoa Mobility Robots, a private hospital and research center focused on rehabilitation technology. We learned about the different types of exoskeletons and different technology they have to aid patients in their rehabilitation journey. It was super interesting the different way the technology could be used to help different injuries in rehabilitation. After the hospital, we then took the bus to the University of the Basque Country main campus to take a short tour of the School of Nursing, Medicine, and Physical Therapy. We saw many different physical therapy labs and different types of technology used to train students. For our final activity in the morning, we headed back to the School of Engineering to listen to Professor Abramowich’s lecture on his research around pelvic floor disorders in women. One thing that surprised me was how common pelvic floor disorders in women are.
After lunch, we headed to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe for an afternoon hike. The weather was perfect for this kind of activity. The ocean and views were incredible. It was such a fun time to be able to enjoy Bilbao in a different way. We ended our hike with some gelato by the beach. Today was filled with such amazing learning opportunities and site seeing, I can’t wait for another fun week.
