Today we woke up bright and early and ready for out next hospital visit, and I have to say it was definitely my favorite one we’ve seen so far! It started with a presentation of an introduction to the hospital itself and some of its staff. We got an overview of the healthcare system in Spain and how it differs from the US. Then we quickly got started on the tour of the hospital. We saw the pediatric ER, the ICU, the neonatal unit, the OB unit, the microbiology labs and the engineering unit. This was very interesting to me because each unit had their own building and there were tunnels underneath that connected all of them. I was in awe in every single unit and thoroughly enjoyed this tour. I knew each of the units of the hospital would catch my interest, but I was very surprised while seeing the engineering portion. As a future nurse I think a lot about the hospital itself and its nurses and doctors, but I never think to look at how the hospital runs from the engineering side and it was amazing to be able to see that today. It definitely gave me a new perspective to healthcare that I’ve never thought about before.
After the tour we headed back to the School of Engineering, where we had some lunch and then looked at an ongoing student project. It was the race team at the school, and we saw the car they were building. And got a quick explanation to what they were doing, some of its parts, and the competition they’re involved in.
Afterwards we headed to the Guggenheim museum. The building itself is so amazing to look at and unlike anything I’ve seen before. We also saw the giant spider statue that’s right in front of it. We walked through the museum and then after I tried some treats from the café inside! Such a good day and can’t wait for tomorrow!
