I have always thought of Costa Rica as one of the most sustainable countries in the world, and looking more into it, I couldn’t have been more correct. Before researching, I mostly thought of Costa Rica as a place surrounded by ocean and covered in rainforest, but I know now that the government and people of this country seriously care about the environment. I think the primary focus on sustainability is impressive and progressive.
One major initiative is Costa Rica’s use of renewable energy like wind, hydro, and other kinds of power. The country also protects many forests and national parks to help wildlife and reduce deforestation. Ecotourism is another big focus because Costa Rica encourages tourism that protects them and the nature.
I found a lot of information on coffee and bananas when researching Costa Rica. The farming of coffee is a big part of the economy, and many farms are in the process of becoming more environmentally friendly. Bananas importance can’t go unrecognized though, but there have been certain problems in the past.
I am excited to go to Costa Rica because I want to experience a new culture, practice my Spanish, and see the rainforests and wildlife in person. I think the trip will be a really cool experience.
