Day 1: What Day is it?

on

I honestly don’t even know what day it is anymore. Initially seeing Morocco, I was so excited. The weather was amazing — sunny and warm with the perfect breeze keeping me cool. There were lines of people at the airport almost seemingly welcoming us into the country, and I loved seeing the palm trees lining the streets. I expected the people to be extremely warm and kind, which they truly were!

I didn’t expect the population to be so diverse — there were Arabic, African, and even Caucasian people everywhere I looked. I expected there to be a clear majority within the population, which maybe there was but I mainly noticed the intense diversity. I was also really surprised by the washing areas beneath the mosque. I didn’t expect the facilities to be so large and the cleaning processes to be so intricate and specific, like the requirement to wash certain body parts three times repeatedly.

One of the most interest facts that stuck with me from the tour of the mosque was that there were roughly 300 loudspeakers secretly hidden throughout the mosque. I was already stunned by the insane attention to detail within the mosque designs and tiling, but seeing the loudspeakers cleverly hidden as well was super interesting to me.
