Day 7: San Sebastian

Today we went to San Sebastian, a city in the Basque Country know for its beach and culinary scene. We started our tour of the city by heading to an amusement park on a cliff that overlooked it. Here we were able to get some really good photos of the city and I also saw a lot of Real Betis fans who came to San Sebastian for the game between Real Sociedad, the local club, and Real Betis. Then we headed to the center of the city and tried out a local restaurant where I had a really good strawberry cheesecake. We also visited an old square that used to be a bull fighting ring in the past.

Next we visited Zumaia, a town known for its geological wonders. In particular, it is known for the Flysch cliffs which were formed by a combination of tectonic plate movement and erosion of sedimentary rock. Famous movie scenes have also been shot in Zumaia such as scenes from Game of Thrones and the Spanish movie Ocho Apellidos Vascos. Most of the time we spent in Zumaia was at Itzurun beach. Because we got to the beach at low tide we were able to see the ridged rock formations and coves by the shore. The cold water of the sea was refreshing to the heat of the day and helped me cool down from all the walking we did.
