We started the day off nice and early! Then got on the bus and headed to the hospital for the Gogoa Company Visit. First they showed us the full exoskeleton that goes on the lower body and helps patient learn to walk. I got the chance to try this machine! They strapped me in and then turned it on and I got to experience how it felt to walk with it. It felt very robotic and took a minute to get used to. After this they showed us this they showed us a few more machines like a clip that goes on your ear to relax you and specific knee and elbow exoskeletons. Finally they showed us the reaction test lights and people got to compete with each other to see who had the faster reaction time.
After this visit we got back on the bus and headed to the School of engineering. We then attended Dr. A’s presentation on AI and women’s reproductive health. We learned about his journey with research as well as his work on pelvic floor dysfunction. Firstly, it was cool to hear about something that isn’t talked about too much and was honestly intriguing that this was his passion. On top of that, I found the overlap between nursing and engineering really cool as he found ways to make models and use AI to make accurate simulations. Once the presentation ended we headed to lunch. I don’t remember what I ate but I bet it was good!
Following this we got on another bus to San Juan Gaztelugatxe for a hike. It started with a nice walk across the cliff with some amazing views. Then we walked down the mountainside towards the stairs and stopped for many photos. We then climbed all 251 stairs starting by stepping where the saint stepped and ending at the top with the ringing of the bell. We took a moment at the top for some pictures and to take in the views before making our way back down. This is when it took a bit of a turn as we walked up the grueling vertical hill to get back to the stop. It was incredibly steep.
