My favorite site visit thus far in the trip has been visiting Poseidon’s Temple. We started off our day by taking a scenic bus tour on the way to the temple led by our tour guide, Dimitri. We were able to see different coastal neighborhoods in the suburbs of Athens on the way to the temple, and I was impressed by the houses located higher up on the mountains. We were also able to see different beach locations, whether they were located in a resort or they were public. It was interesting to hear about the different islands Greece has as well. Upon arrival to the temple, we were all quick to notice that there was no apparent construction at the temple. Dimitri informed us that there has been zero restoration done to the temple, even though it is located right near the sea. While walking the trail alongside the temple, I was amazed by the view of the Aegean Sea. We had the opportunity to stop to take pictures of the temple and also the Aegean, and the combination of ancient architecture and the view overlooking the water made me appreciate how engineering and culture can come together so powerfully.
