Arrows and Smart Fridges

Today, we began our day with archery and a visit to the Suwon Fortress. While our experience with archery was short because they only let us shoot ten arrows, I still had a great time. I have actually done archery before, but I remember being a lot better than I was today. Once we were done shooting, we walked around the nearby ancient structures to take pictures. I think it’s interesting how seemingly identical historic structures keep popping up everywhere we go. Korea seems to be very good at preserving parts of its history while still building modern structures and cities around them. Suwon Fortress and the other palaces that we have seen don’t feel out of place in the cities; they feel like they belong. The contrast between the historical cites and modern cities is the most interesting part of Seoul so far. Korea doesn’t choose between preserving its past and continuing to develop their country, and their cities still feel put together and not random or all over the place.

Afterward, we went for a scheduled tour of the Samsung Innovation Museum. Visiting Samsung was definitely my favorite part of the trip so far, because it gave a very interesting history of electronics, while also highlighting what Samsung is creating today. This museum improved my perspective on the progression of technology in our society feel stronger, and much more connected, instead of just reading about it. It was cool to see how the early inventions led to the amazing things that Samsung is creating today. As an Electrical Engineering student, this was very inspiring because it directly connects to what I’m learning about and how this technology is evolving. This leaves me excited to both learn about more companies and explore more of what can be done in the field of electronics.
