Look Alive, It’s Day 5!

Day 5 started at Hospital Basurto where our tour guide Dario carried the energy for the visit. He was so personable and funny, knew practically every corner of the hospital, and made even the most technical areas interesting. We visited several units such as the NICU, pediatric ER, the microbiology lab, the infectious disease unit, and even the electricity unit in the basement. The latter opened my eyes to just how much infrastructure is needed to keep a hospital running smoothly behind the scenes. One of the most interesting parts of the visit was hearing from an engineer who works for the hospital who designed a virtual hospital tour app showcasing how technology can improve accessibility and patient navigation in the healthcare field.

Later, we visited the Guggenheim Museum. My favorite exhibits were the gold hotdog, the Prada toilet, and the Tiffany & Co Mcdonalds meal. The museum itself is quite immersive and futuristic.
