Markets and Funicular

on

Today was one of our more relaxed days while here in Bilbao. We started off our morning by trying churros and chocolate. The churros were very delicious and paired well with the chocolate. The chocolate was very thick and rich, unlike hot chocolate in the states. It was a yummy way to start our day.

After our morning treat we went to a local flower, flea, and artisan market. There was lots of beautiful handmade artwork by local artists. There were also used books, records, jewelry, trinkets, and more. It was a very cute market with lots of good products to purchase. The flower market was also very beautiful and smelled amazing. It was such a good way to spend a quiet weekend morning.

Next we rode the funicular Artxanda up to a scenic viewpoint of Bilbao. While the funicular was similar to Pittsburgh’s Incline, it was much faster and more modern. At the top there was a beautiful view point that showcased the entire city from a bird’s eye view. It was a fun way to gain a new perspective of the city! While at the top of the funicular we also had our mid-trip check in meeting. It was good to touch base and discuss our experiences and feelings about the trip so far.
