Today we travelled to the Corinth Canal, Napflio, and the Great Theatre of Epidavros. Our guide, Dimitri, showed us around each of these locations and explained the history and mythology associated with each location. For example, while we were driving to Corinth, Dimitri pointed out Nimea in the distance, citing the 12 labors of Heracles. Dimitri also told us details about his life and family while on our way to Napflio, as he and his family are from that area of the Peloponnese. Throughout the day and this trip, Dimitri really amazed me with the connections he drew between himself, the land, the architecture, and Greek culture. I thought it was really beautiful how everything tied together.

Dimitri also made sure to emphasize that even though we are engineers, we should not ignore knowledge related to the humanities. He mentioned how even as someone who did not work in a technical profession, he needed to know a little physics, geology, and sciences to understand the human relationship to it all. I liked his insights and reflections from the trip, and I think that as I continue to grow as a person and professional, his words will help me to deepen my understanding of the world.
