Today was more relaxed and focused on exploring different parts of Bilbao and experiencing more of the local culture.
We started the morning by trying churros with chocolate, which was different from the version commonly found in the United States. The churros were not coated in sugar and were much less sweet, which paired well with the rich chocolate served alongside them. It was interesting seeing how the same food can vary between countries while still feeling familiar.
After breakfast, we visited a flea market that was filled mostly with Spanish books, movies, comics, and older collectibles. Nearby, there was also a flower market with a variety of plants and arrangements. Walking through both markets gave a better sense of the local atmosphere and everyday life in the city.
Later, we took the Artxanda Funicular up above the city, where we were able to see panoramic views of Bilbao. From the top, the layout of the city, surrounding hills, and river were all visible, and the view made it easier to appreciate how the city is built into the landscape.
After some time back at the hotel, the group went out later in the evening for a birthday dinner to celebrate together and end the day.
