Today, we did numerous fun activities in downtown Heredia. This was the first “work day” that we experience while being in Costa Rica. I was surprised to find that our host mom worked from home. I expected most jobs in Costa Rica to be in person. She had to get on a meeting on her laptop and her desk was set up on the back porch. I found it surprising that her office space was on the back patio.
Downtown Heredia was very busy. This ties into my previous wrong expectation of how jobs work here in Costa Rica. Since it was so busy at 10 AM on a Monday it must mean people were not working. I am curious to see what most jobs are like here in Costa Rica. Do most people work from home or have a flexible schedule? I feel like after getting to know how life works in Costa Rica this would make the most sense. Many Ticos live life freely and strict jobs just don’t fit into their lifestyle.
I hope to learn more about occupations with the rest of my time in Costa Rica!
