I really enjoyed the time we spent learning Arabic today but I enjoy bargaining more than learning the new language. I honestly really struggle trying to remember the right words to say. However, I really enjoy my time bargaining in the Souks. Although, its sometimes difficult to the price down to a reasonable amount I like the game of going back and forth trying to get the best deal. I had a very fun experience with this the first day in Casablanca. I got this pretty black purse for only 200MAD after his beginning offer was 450. He finally agreed when I was walking out of the store and I think that was the proudest I have been all trip.
I also had a good experience today. We were giving 30MAD to spend at the Souks by CCCL to practice our negotiation. Anna and I found this little tea cup with a spoon and decided we wanted that to be our 30MAD purchase. He started the price at something around 100 and we were able to get it down to 30 telling him that we could not spend any more because it was for a school assignment. After some back and forth he agreed and even told us we were very good at bargaining.
I think the think that is the most effective is acting not interested and leaving the store and then also giving a reason you can’t give more. This worked well for me and the first bag. Madison often says she has no more money than what she can offer which has worked very well for her so I might have to try it out soon. Either way even if I do not win a deal I really enjoy my time shopping and hunting for goods around the Souks.
Can’t wait for the next time I get to hunt around the Souks. See you tomorrow for another blog from here in Rabat!
