Day 8: Flea Market and Funicular!

Day 8!! My day started with a bit of unexpected stress after I woke up with an issue in my eye that clearly wasn’t going away on its own. I ended up calling International SOS, and thankfully the whole process was surprisingly straightforward. They connected me with a doctor online who was able to assess the situation virtually and prescribe antibiotics right away. The prescription only cost 8 euros, and later in the day I picked it up from a local pharmacy without any hassle. Not exactly the start I had planned, but I was relieved by how efficient and smooth the experience turned out to be.

Due to my crazy morning, I showed up a few minutes late to churros with the group. Thankfully, I still had the chance to try one and get a coffee. Both were very good! I have had churros before, but they tasted very different here.

After churros, we headed into the city to check out some pop up stores. There were many homemade items that were beautiful. We then went to a nearby flea market. There was beautiful jewelry here and really pretty flowers. It was so fun to walk around and look at everything.

After we were done in the market, we took the metro to the Artxanda Funicular. It was very similar to the incline in Pittsburgh but much steeper! At the top, we got to see some gorgeous views of the city. We then sat in a circle and had a group discussion of the trip so far. It was a nice opportunity to connect with the group and see what had an impact on everyone. It was a great way to recap and reflect on everything we experienced so far!

We ended the day with a group dinner to celebrate Eloise’s birthday! Another great day! So sad it’s almost over.
