May 11th: Markets and Walking Tour

on

Today, we went to the Mercado Central in Heredia and then went on a walking tour of the city. There, I saw many similarities to our homestay. One of these is the hospitality of the Costa Rican people. For example, on our first day, our host brother took us on a tour of the neighborhood and picked local fruit for us. He was very welcoming.

In the Mercado Central, we were put into groups, and we had to work together for a scavenger hunt. For the hunt, we had to take pictures, buy certain items, and learn Spanish names of products. Our teams were unfamiliar with most of the items, so we had to ask other shoppers for help. Everyone we talked to was very helpful and led us to the items. This outgoing attitude reminds me of our host family who go out of their way to make us feel comfortable in a new setting.
