Day 2 was a very unique experience. The hotel visit gave a new perspective into the luxury lifestyle here in Vietnam. It was extremely interesting to learn about the level of customer service and the focus on attention to detail that was described by the tour leader. I specifically found the detail about staying humble interesting and how the signage in front of their hotel is smaller and less noticeable than a normal hotel. They explained that this was because their focus is on the guests and they want it to feel more like a home than a hotel. Another example of this is that shortly after you enter the hotel, instead of the receptionist desk being there, there are flowers instead followed by a piece of art, representing the comfort that the hotel wants us to feel as we enter. One thing that stood out to me during this visit was that every employee seemed well trained and made sure guests felt welcomed and comfortable at all times. The cleanliness of the hotel illustrated how they were very focused on detail. Luxury brands like Hyatt keep their reputation by making sure guests receive a high quality experience no matter what location they visit in any part of the world. I also found connections between the lecture because hotels have to balance the idea of the luxury experience, while keeping in mind the environment and not wasting things. In terms of sustainability in the hotel industry, it is more about maintaining a positive image of your brand than focusing solely on the environment. Separate from this, the Vietnamese language class was an amazing and unique experience as we got to learn the basics of the language. I enjoyed having the help of the UEF students there to help us through the difficult process of learning a brand new language. Today showed me how important it is to learn outside of the traditional class environment. These experiences today showed me that it is important to see the mix of local culture along with how businesses operate in a city like Ho Chi Minh.
