Today we visited Kyndryl, Dos Pinos, and the Oxigeno Mall. Kyndryl is an IT corporation based in NYC with a location in Costa Rica. With data and AI, they are helping countries all around the world grow. Their IT services help increase efficiency and reach more customers. They help all sorts of companies around the world, but there’s little they are doing to benefit Costa Rica specifically. While they try to offset any environmental damage they cause, Dos Pinos benefits Costa Rica and its people significantly more.

It was interesting to see how two companies that both bring so much to Costa Rica differ in their practices and to whom their benefits go. Dos Pinos provides education on health to local schools, is a collaborative that benefits local businesses equally, uses local firms to help the factory, and has products sold in Costa Rica. While they have grown into neighboring countries, their impact on Costa Rica stays strong. They are more active in their sustainability practices, with 100% of waste water being recycled and recycled bottles making things like roofs. Their countrywide recognition with their blue flag is something to be proud of. When resources used by the community are then fed back into that same community, it’s truly inspiring.
