It Gets TEU Serious Down at the Port

Today we toured Piraeus Port, which is the largest shipping port in the Mediterranean Sea. The port is a deep sea port, operates 24/7, and is composed of three main piers. Smaller feeder vessels are served at the second pier and mother vessels are served at the first pier. The port can hold up to 634 million TEUs of cargo, which are held in 20 and 40ft containers. At the port, we toured with PCT (Piraeus Container Terminal), the result of a 35 year contract between Greece and China. It was really interesting to see the connection and relationship between the two countries at their headquarter office, which highlighted aspects of both Greek and Chinese culture. I thought it was also especially interesting to see this relationship due to the massive shipping operations which occur at the port. Overall, it was a great experience and very interesting to see!
