Korea STEEL

We first started a day traveling back to POSTECH, where we had a campus tour. A POSTECH student was in charge of the tour, where they led us to the library, student union, gymnasium, and many outdoor places. The campus is so beautiful, massive, and engineered so perfectly. The gutter and waterways, for when it rains, are designed so well and look so cool. I had so many conversations with the POSTECH student also about his academics, sports, and video games he plays. It was so fun to talk with a Korean student and share our thoughts and opinions. For lunch, we ate at a restaurant in the college where I got grilled chicken with soup and rice. I was also taught a tech of pouring hot water in my rice pot and letting it boil to have a rice porridge with the burnt rice.

I talked about this a bit in my previous blog, but I am truthfully thinking about the chance of studying at POSTECH. I believe it would be a great experience and a great thing to put on my resume that I have international experience. The campus was so lovely, and the people I met so far were all so amazing

After leaving the college, our next destination was POSCO, a steel mill.

First, we started out with a museum tour where we learned how steel is made and the history of steelmaking in the world. Then we learned the history of POSCO and how it started, how it developed into the company it is now.

After the museum, we got back into the bus and travelled to a different building, where the actual machinery showed how heated metal is pressed. where we weren’t allowed to have photos. There was a large conveyor belt that moved the heated metal very fast into a machine that poured water and pressed the metal into a thinner, longer piece. Each time the metal was pressed, tons of steam emerged and filled the room. It was fascinating when the metal would roll the conveyor belt near me, and I could instantly feel the whole room become hot, and as soon as the metal left the room went back to room temperature. This metal pressing was so insanely cool to see and is one of the highlights of my trip.

After, we were driven back to the hotel, and along with a friend of mine, I went to the beach again and got McDonald’s. After I walked across the beach one more time. Pohang is very different from Seoul, but it is still very nice. There are almost no tourists, and it is not crowded at all. There is a completely different atmosphere in Pohang, which I love.
