Today we had the opportunity to tour Piraeus Port. The Piraeus Port is a port located in Greece that deals with large container ships. It handles multiple sized vessels which all only transport container cargo. On our bus tour of the facility, we got to see how cargo was loaded and unloaded from the ships docked at the port. Large quay cranes lift cargo off the ships and onto smaller transport trucks to be taken away. These trucks are monitored through a digital twin like system to ensure maximum efficiency as the port can track where the trucks are and where to assign them jobs. The tour also showed us how the large port utilized buses to transport workers around which I thought was cool.
