Airports and Cement

on

With the days counting down in Greece it is important to enjoy every moment. Today, we had 2 visits that I found really interesting. The first one Titan cement in which we learned about the process of making cement which I knew nothing about. This was extremely cool as I learned about something which makes up so much of our world. After this we went to the Athens international airport and learned about the operations of the airport. This was really cool as I learned the inner workings of one of the coolest and smoothest ran operations on the globe. One of the things that we also learned throughout our trip was the importance of being able to change people’s lives for the better and being able to do what you can because ultimately engineering as a whole is a service profession.

Firstly, I learned the importance of communication at the airport which I will bring into my future career because when I am part of a team in order to contribute the most to society, I will need to be able to communicate to reach goals. In addition to this, teamwork in general will allow a team and allow myself to really make a positive impact to today’s world. Next, one of the things that Titan cement has done recently was make essentially custom cement for the Riviera tower at the Ellinikon development. This was because they needed cement that would be able to last with the salty winds of the seas. I will bring this concept to my own career by acknowledging that at some point in career I’m going to need to make something for someone and making sure that whatever that thing is is made properly and to the best of my abilities is important because just like the Riviera tower, whatever I design will directly affect others’ lives meaning if I can meet their needs I can positively affect their lives. More specifically, the things that I can do is make solutions that are directly centered around a client’s needs and being able to make their process smooth and as enjoyable as I can.
