Coffee Tour!

on

Today we visited Cafe Britt, a gourmet coffee and chocolate brand. We got to see the steps and cycles of how coffee is made. We also got to try different types of coffee that is harvested around Costa Rica. I learned that their is a harvesting season in Costa Rica for coffee and that the coffee plant is harvested when it sprouts red cherries.

Cafe Britt seems to be a company that values Costa Rican culture and uplifts the economy. By providing coffee tours, Cafe Britt gets to share Costa Rican culture with people who may not be familiar with it. You could tell that the tour guide today was very excited to simply share the coffee experience with us. The packaging for the coffee beans was very Costa Rica focused as it had pictures of land of where the coffee was grown. They also have an animal line of coffee that supports Costa Rican animals. This makes me believe that the company values sharing the culture of Costa Rica. In our presentation after the coffee tour, we got to see Cafe Britt’s sales chart. This valuable information shares how Costa Rica uplifts the economy by their high sales.

With this being said, I do however feel that Cafe Britt was definitely touristy. It was a big place rather than a small locally owned establishment. This made it feel a little less authentic than a small coffee farm would feel.

Overall, I had a very fun day and I loved the chocolate covered bananas and pineapples!
