Today we had some presentations on different balance. We learned about the different systems which affect balance, the ways different devices help correct balance, and how balance is tested on a scale. We learned about many different devices on the market that assess and improve balance in a wide variety of ways. Some very advanced and very expensive, and some not very expensive or advanced. I found it interesting that there were so many different devices to help improve and test balance. We also learned about different clinical scales and how they work to test balance. We even got to do the Berg Balance Scale test on our friends. We did it with blindfolds on so that it was more difficult for us. This was interesting because it let me see how clinicians would test patients. I can understand how this would be a longer process of testing if it was for someone older. We had a few more presentations on the Oreka Balance machine and then we went and saw the new version of the machine in the lab. I liked being able to see how this version changed from the first version.
After lunch we got a tour of the BISKY group, which is a club at the University that designs a rocket to be launched. We had their student leader give us a presentation on their club and also give us a tour of their laboratory. After this we went over to the Athletic Club de Bilbao or known to the locals as La Cathedral. We saw all around the facilities and even got to go into the executive suite. It was cool to get a view of the field from a spot I have never been before. We also got to see the museum inside the Athletic Club of the history of it and all the players. I thought the museum was really nicely orchestrated. I found it very interesting to tour the stadium and learn about the Club considering it is such a huge part of the culture here. Once our tour was done we wandered to Old Town for some souvenir shopping and gelato/cheesecake.
