Today we had a tour at an engineering company called Tekniker. We started off with a presentation from the head of the Health Sector. He talked about what the different sectors entail and what kind of research they do in each one. He also went more specific into research and designs that the Health Sector had been doing and the different stages they were in. I thought it was cool to be able to see the different phases of each project and learn about what each phase entails. The next presenter was an employee from the Human Resources department about how students can get involved in their company. I liked being able to see what the students were working on and how they were helping. After the presentations we saw a tour of the company. We looked at different labratories that were designed to build different things. I thought it was interesting how each lab had a different special area of something that it specialized in. Next we got to see the amenities the company offered such as a gym, a climbing wall, and even a relaxation room. I thought it was very interesting to see the amenities this company offers and how obviously important work life balance is here.
After the company we went to the Oma Forrest to see the painted trees. We had a nice 2 mile walk up to the trees and then we enjoyed our lunches at the top. We went through the forrest to see all paintings on the trees. There were specific markers lined up for us to stand on to see the paintings all together. I liked seeing how all the paintings on the trees made one picture. It was nice to be able to see the beautiful views as well. After this we headed back down and made our way back to the bus. Then we headed to Guernika to tour the Parliament building and explore the park. We got to see a model of the Picasso painting called Guernica symboling the tragedies of war. The parliament building was very beautiful. It had pictures and stained windows throughout the top of it. I also thought it was cool to be able to learn how the system works in another country. We also got to see the European Park in Guernika where the tree from Hiroshima was. It was the only tree that survived the bombings of Hiroshima. We also got to see the Mother Statue and the Father Statue in the park. After this we got some coffee and headed back home. It was a long day with a lot of walking but it was a lot of fun.
