Based on the visits today to Titan Cement and Athens International Airport, I learned a lot about their operations and processes. The amount of steps and different levels it takes to create a functioning system surprised me, along with the care and dedication they put into each one.
At Titan Cement, I learned about how concrete is made and some of the challenges they face when designing new concrete to help battle current building issues. Meanwhile, at the Athens airport, I was able to see their focus on energy and sustainability. I found it fascinating how they were producing so much energy that they were even able to sell it back to Greece. I have always found sustainability fascinating, so being able to see both the effects and the plant itself made me even more excited to implement those ideas in my future work as an engineer. It also reminded me of the importance of taking into account both the energy input and output when designing systems.
