May 13th – Cafe bueno!

After visiting Cafe Britt, I believe that the company does a good job of promoting Costa Rican culture and products while using their own marketing tactics to encourage people worldwide to buy their product. The history of coffee was shown throughout the tour and in the lecture, showing how the national identity has changed and coffee right along with it. The guy on the tour was very funny and informational which kept me engaged, and made the whole experience feel unique and important, which helps support the country’s economy and image.

But at the same time, I do feel that some parts are tailored to tourists and customers. The tour definitely connects more to the brand making people more likely to purchase products. There was many free samples, cool presentation, and a great gift shop layout to compliment it all. Even so, it was real and enthusiastic because the company itself is still Costa Rican with its products and traditions. My lasting thoughts for the day are that Cafe Britts identity mostly lifts up Costa Rican culture by turning local identity into something valuable on a global level rather than replacing it with a simplistic brand.
