Today we visited Tekniker, an engineering company that focuses on innovation and research in many different fields. We started the visit with a presentation from one of the employees, who explained the company’s history, mission, and the different types of projects they work on. After the presentation, we were taken on a tour through several areas of the company where we got to see a lot of really advanced and interesting technology in action. One area that especially stood out to me was their work with flexible electronics. I had honestly never thought electronics could bend and function like that, so it was really fascinating to learn about the possibilities and future applications of that technology.
After leaving Tekniker, we got back on the bus and headed to Oma Forest for a long hike. The walk up the hill was definitely tiring, but once we reached the top, we took a break and enjoyed sandwiches and juice boxes while taking in the scenery. After that, we continued deeper into the forest to see the famous painted trees. There were 32 different art pieces spread throughout the forest, each painted in a way that connected multiple trees together. My favorite was definitely the one with eyes painted across the trunks because it looked both really cool and slightly unsettling at the same time. Seeing how nature and art were blended together throughout the forest made the hike feel completely unique.
Later in the day, we traveled to Guernica. It was really meaningful learning about the town’s history and its importance to the Basque people. We watched a powerful historical video about the bombings of 1937 during the Bombing of Guernica, and it was honestly very emotional to see the impact the tragedy had on the town and its people. Visiting Guernica added a much deeper historical perspective to the trip and reminded me how important it is to remember and learn from events like that.
