Bilbao Day 12: The Last Day

on

Today was our last full day in Bilbao and served as a final wrap-up to the program and everything we experienced throughout the trip.

We started the morning by learning about pregnancy care and appointments within the Spanish healthcare system. The presentation explained the different stages of care, routine appointments, and how the healthcare system supports both mothers and children throughout pregnancy. It was interesting comparing the structure and accessibility of care in Spain to what is more common in the United States.

After that, we visited several student clubs, including a prosthetic hand project and a guitar club. It was interesting seeing the different types of projects students worked on and how engineering could be applied in both medical and creative settings. The prosthetic hand project especially stood out because of its connection to accessibility and healthcare.

Later, we had a final meeting for the program where everyone reflected on the experience and exchanged small gifts. The atmosphere was very wholesome and appreciative, and it felt like a good way to close out the program after spending so much time together over the past weeks.

Afterward, we visited the Vizcaya Bridge, also known as the Hanging Bridge. The engineering behind it was impressive, especially how it transports both people and cars across the river using the suspended platform. Seeing it in person made it easier to appreciate both the scale and design of the structure.

We ended the day with our final dinner together in Bilbao, followed by karaoke on the bus ride back. Reflecting on the trip as a whole, I was definitely exhausted and ready to return home, but at the same time, I knew I would miss the people, the relationships we built, and the overall group dynamic that developed throughout the experience. The people on this trip allow me to come out of my shell and really enjoy the trip. 🙂
