Day 3: Vietnam

on

Even though I went to bed early last night, I couldn’t sleep for long. I woke up at around 3:30 and couldn’t go back to sleep. I proceeded to scroll on my phone until about 6am when I started to get up and ready. I wanted some breakfast, so while getting ready I was browsing the bakery options. I found one local, Merci Bakery, and was set to go there. Once I got there, I realized I chose the right place. I ordered a croissant, and then had to wait. I did not realize that the workers were making it fresh, so I may have accidentally grabbed one from the display case and ate that one as well…

The almond croissant later came out and looked terrific. I’m not a big fan of almond, but it was definitely worth it.

After breakfast, everybody started to get ready to go the the UEF building. Today we were learning more about supply chain and the logistics of it. We learned from specific examples about the decisions a company should make regarding the manufacturing problems. We played a kahoot, and I got 1st place!

After the lesson with the UEF students, we got prepared to go on a site visit. The site we went to was Dien Quqng, a company specializing in LED lights. It was interesting to see the manufacting processes for the lights and other smart devices. They have started implementing robots for their tasks, so they now only need one employee per assembly line.

At times the presentation was difficult to understand, for it was spoken fully in Vietnamese and had to be translated for us students. The facility itself was very impressive and watching the machines work their jobs was interesting.

Overall, the day was very hot, interesting, and an experience. We gained knowledge about the company and their logistics and were also taught about supply chain and how to deal with situations at hand. Also, the lunch was phenomenal.
